It happens all the time. Bloggers commit to blogging on a regular schedule—or on a certain day of the week—and they come up empty. This phenomenon is knows as “blogger’s block.”
My basic advice to anyone who wants to blog is to two-fold:
- Commit to blogging on a regular schedule so your readers will anticipate your post.
- Create and keep a running list of blog subjects—sort of a blogging to-do-list—that you’ll use to make sure you have always have an idea in the pipeline.
In a effort to practice what I preach, I hereby commit to blogging every Friday.
Here’s my list of what I expect to blog about:
- Avoiding Blogger’s Block: Keep a List of Blogging Subjects
- Repurposing and distributing Existing Content
- Favorite Internet Marketing Resources
- The Wonderful World of WordPress
- Basecamp vs. Backpack
- The Buyer Persona
- Perspective on Internet Marketing
- Internet Marketing: The Big Picture
- Determining the Best Keywords
- Questions about Social Media
I recommend a keeping at least ten blogging subjects lined up. The list can be–and should be–updated constantly as you assess what’s hot, what’s not, what’s relevant and what’s easy (The easy items are a good choice when you’re rushed or not ready for the deeper subjects.
Have a suggestion for a blogging topics? Please let me know and I’ll blogging about it.
