Sampling of books from my Internet marketing and social media library.

The value I bring to my clients goes far beyond the years of experience I have in developing marketing solutions. That value includes my insatiable appetite for knowledge. I read a lot of books, blogs and articles on Internet marketing, and constantly listen to relevant books and podcasts. Here’s a list of what I consider great resources for the modern marketer.

One of the first books I read in my quest to learn about Internet marketing was had a huge impact on me. Tim Sander’s Love is the Killer App stresses the importance of reading and learning everything you can about what you are passionate about in business, and then sharing it unselfishly with everyone it might impact. This page is dedicated to sharing with you what I’ve found to be helpful in Internet marketing.

What am I reading right now?
In hard copy, I’m reading The Social Media Bible, Tactics, Tools & Strategies for Business Success by Don Safko and David K. Brake. It’s nearly as thick as the St. Louis white pages, and packed with just about every angle on the subject. I asked myself when I saw the book—and several people have asked me since—how long will this book be relevant in light of how fast Social Media technology and application is changing? I’ve found that it contains plenty of basic human nature and conceptual communication stuff that it’s bound to have value going forward. And on the publisher’s website I see that they’re soliciting contributors for the next version, so like this website, it’s a work in progress. One other observation, besides being a great resource book, it has lots of checklists and procedures companies and consultants can use to assess and track their Social Media efforts.

In the car, on the treadmill, and behind the mower, I’m currently re-listening (audible.com) to Groundswell by Josh Bernoff and Charlene Li. Like many of the marketing and business books I’ve read, one time through is usually not enough. This one is so full of definition, analysis and case studies, and there’s so much is going on in social media, that a review yields so much new understanding.

What will I read next?
I think my next read will be Tagging: People-powered Metadata for the Social Web (Voices That Matter) by Gene Smith. Because proper SEO determines success or failure, the more we know about using tags, the more people we’ll get to our sites.

What’s on my Bookshelf?
I hope to post a short synopsis of these and explain why I think they are relevant to business. In the meantime, if you’d like to ask me about a specific book, or have any books to suggest, please feel free to contact me. These are listed in reverse chronological order, with the most recently read first.

What’s on my iPhone?
There are many podcasts available that cover internet marketing, media and technology. These—available through the iTunes Store—are the ones I’m currently listening to. Please feel fee to suggest others.
